A-Rod's Next Stop On Rehab Assignment: Triple-A Scranton
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Yankees general manager Brian Cashman announced on Wednesday that Alex Rodriguez will move his rehab assignment from Double-A Trenton to Triple-A Scranton. He will participate in his first game on Thursday against the Louisville Bats.
The third baseman went 2-for-7, belting a two-run homer and tallying another RBI, in his previous two games with the Trenton Thunder. This marks the final week of A-Rod's 20-day minor league rehab assignment, which ends on Sunday.
The MLBPA has stated that any suspensions corresponding with the Biogenesis investigation will likely be handed out in 2014. If the Yankees believe that Rodriguez is ready to play, he can return to the team on Monday. If the 14-time All-Star is deemed unready, he is required to take five days off before presumably returning to Tampa, Fla., to continue rehabbing his offseason hip surgery.
Derek Jeter also spent time with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders during his rehab assignment this year, playing in four games from July 6-10.
In other recent A-Rod news, the 37-year-old hired a former WWE star to be a part of his security team.
