A-Rod Frustrated After Leaving Game With Tight Right Calf
BOSTON (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez left Sunday night's 9-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox because of a tight right calf.
Vernon Wells pinch hit for Rodriguez in the fifth inning.
"I've had a calf injury before, and those are tricky," A-Rod said. "They're very dangerous. I'm hoping that I came out of the game before something really bad happened."
Rodriguez was 1 for 2 with a single in the game, which was the Yankees' last in Boston this year.

New York was swept by Boston and trails AL wild-card leaders Oakland and Texas by three games.
Rodriguez was on the disabled list until Aug. 5 recovering from left hip surgery. He is batting .280 with six homers in 35 games.
Manager Joe Girardi said he had "no idea" whether A-Rod, who also has been dealing with a hamstring issue, would play Tuesday in Toronto.
"It's frustrating, especially because I feel so good up there," Rodriguez said. "I've also missed playing third base. I think it's important for me to be out there playing third base. I think it makes our team more balanced. I guess the good news is that we're leaving Boston."
A-Rod said he wants to "come back as soon as possible."
"If I can play, I'll play," he said. "If we were in the middle of June or May it'd be a different story."
