Families Seek Poll Over Placement Of Unidentified Remains At 9/11 Museum
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A group of family members of World Trade Center victims is demanding that New York City officials give them a list of next of kin for all of the nearly 2,800 victims so they can poll the relatives on the placement of unidentified remains.
The families announced Thursday that they have filed a Freedom of Information Law request to get the relatives' names and addresses.
They want to poll the family members on the city's plan to place more than 9,000 unidentified pieces of human remains at a subterranean site at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
A spokesman for Mayor Michael Bloomberg says many family members would be outraged if the city released their addresses.
The spokesman says family members were consulted about plans for the unidentified remains.
