Cops: 91-Year-Old Man Killed In Hit-And-Run In Sheepshead Bay
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 91-year-old man crossing a busy intersection near his Brooklyn home was struck and killed by a car that fled the scene, police said.
The incident happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Milton Levine was pronounced dead at Lutheran Hospital.
Police said he was crossing Nostrand Avenue and Avenue Y in Sheepshead Bay when he was hit by a Nissan Pathfinder, whose driver did not stop. The impact sent the man in the path of a Nissan Murano.
"I heard it and I saw the car take off. I do know it was a Nissan Pathfinder that took off," neighbor Larry Hilfman told CBS 2's Emily Smith.
Hilfman said he then watched another driver run over Levine's body. He said the female driver got out of her car in shock.
"I saw her getting out of the car, looking underneath the car. I think she knew what happened. I think she knew she hit the guy, or the guy was hit before and she ran over the gentlemen right after," Hilfman said.
That driver isn't facing any charges, but the search is on for the other driver.

CBS 2's Smith spoke to Levine's son-in-law Friday. He was too upset to talk on camera but told her Levine was as good as gold. He did things like grocery shop for his friends who weren't as lively.
Rabbi William Golub told Smith that Levine not only had lots of friends, but tons of energy.
"[He was] very active, very active. He'd walk literally, probably miles every day and he was very much with it," Rabbi Golub said.
Flyers were posted up around the intersection and the NYPD erected an electronic display asking for the public's help.
Those who knew Levine at the nearby Shore Park Jewish Center said his personality inspired the entire congregation.
"The rabbi was crying all night and I couldn't stop crying this morning," Richard Hochman, president of Shore Park Jewish Center, said. "It's a sad thing, it's an unfortunate thing and we will miss him extremely."
Police are investigating whether any surveillance cameras in the area may have recorded the incident.
