77th Street No. 6 Line Subway Station To Be Renamed For Mayor Koch
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Late Mayor Ed Koch will soon have a subway station on the Upper East Side named in his honor.
U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-New York) will be on hand Monday to announce that the 77th Street No. 6 line station, at 77th Street and Lexington Avenue, will be known as the Mayor Ed Koch Subway Station.
Maloney said Koch called the 77th Street station his favorite stop on the subway, where he often campaigned.
Officials have introduced legislation in the Council to rename the subway station in honor of Koch, who died Friday of congestive heart failure at age 88.
Koch served as mayor from 1978 until 1989.
