7 Firefighters Suffer Smoke Inhalation Battling Warehouse Fire In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Seven firefighters had to be treated for smoke inhalation after battling an early morning blaze at a warehouse in Brooklyn.
The fire broke out around 1 a.m. Thursday at the Belmont Metals company on Belmont Avenue in East New York.
The fire started inside the warehouse in a kiln stove, which is an industrial-sized oven that may have had hazardous materials, CBS 2's Andrea Grymes reported.

The fire itself was out in about an hour, but the seven firefighters suffered what was described as "serious" smoke inhalation. They were taken to Kings County Hospital where they were treated and released.
Hazmat crews were also called to the scene to evaluate what was inside the kiln. The fire department said they do not believe there was an environmental hazard in the neighborhood, WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported.
