On Tuesday afternoon, it was announced that former New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur would be retiring from the NHL and joining the St. Louis Blues' front office. He'll make it official during a press conference Thursday.
Marty produced countless memorable moments during his illustrious career, but we've narrowed it all down to a list of his seven best:
7. Playoff Goal (1997)
On April 17, 1997, Brodeur scored against the Montreal Canadiens, becoming the second goaltender in league history to find the back of the net in the postseason.
6. The Renaissance (2012)
He helped lead the Devils to a surprising Stanley Cup Final appearance, and stood on his head to at times to get them there. It was just like the good old days.
5. Vezina Runs (2003, 2004, 2007, 2008)
Believe it or not, Brodeur didn't win his first Vezina Trophy until 2003. He didn't really let go of it, claiming the title four times in five seasons.
4. Olympic Gold (2002)
Brodeur backstopped the Canadian team to its first gold medal at the Olympics in 50 years, defeating host Team USA in the finals in Salt Lake City. He won it again with Team Canada in 2010.
3. Rookie Of The Year (1993-94)
It ended in heartbreak, but his first NHL season was fantastic and earned him the Calder Trophy.
2. Stanley Cups (1995, 2000, 2003)
His first performance might've been his best, but each of the three were of the epic variety. Surprisingly, Brodeur never won a Conn Smythe Trophy in his career.
1. Record Breaker
The 2009 calendar year was a historic one for Brodeur. In March, he broke the all-time wins record. The following season, in December, he broke another two: most games played and most shutouts. He owns several others as well.
