60 Displaced By Fire At Perth Amboy Apartment Building
PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An early morning fire swept through a New Jersey apartment building leaving dozens of people homeless.
The three-story apartment building on State Street in Perth Amboy was completely destroyed in the blaze which was reported around 4:15 a.m. Thursday, investigators said.
It took about 75 firefighters nearly three hours to extinguish the fire.
Five tenants, including a baby who was reportedly thrown down from a fire escape, a firefighter and a police officer were taken to hospitals for injuries that were considered non-life threatening, officials said.
Nearly 60 displaced residents have been moved to a nearby community center.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
