6 Injured In L.I. Apartment Building Fire
VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (AP) -- Four firefighters, a police officer and one resident suffered minor injuries during a fire at a Long Island apartment building.
Nassau County police say the fire erupted at 4:45 a.m. Monday in Valley Stream.
One resident, one police officer and two firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation and released. Two other firefighters were treated for a sprained ankle and a broken thumb.
The American Red Cross says it assisted 13 residents forced out of their homes by the fire. They were given food, clothing and a place to stay, says spokeswoman Kristy D'Errico.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, but not considered suspicious.
