6 Accused Of Drug Trafficking Out Of Bronx Grocery Store
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The owners of a Bronx grocery store have been accused in an alleged drug trafficking ring.
As WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported, a padlock on the door of the Joaquin Grocery Store on Morris Avenue in the Bronx tells the story.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said that instead of earning an honest living, the owners turned their grocery store into a drug market that took advantage of poor Medicaid recipients whose prescriptions were filled with diverted, mishandled and repackaged medications.
The six defendants are now charged with trafficking oxycodone and expensive HIV medication out of the store.
According to Bharara, the successful drug trade at the store also led to violence.
An alleged former competitor in the illegal prescription drug trade was shot in the head while reportedly attempting to lure customers away from Joaquin Grocery to his own store a few doors away, Cornell reported.
