'500 Men Making A Difference' Organize Marathon Volunteer Project In Honor Of MLK Day
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - As the nation gets ready to celebrate Martin Luther King Day on Monday, volunteers in Brooklyn honored Martin Luther King Jr., a few days early.
For 72 straight hours, beginning Saturday, the volunteers are painting, cleaning and renovating the Magnolia Tree Earth Educational Center in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
It's the fifth annual MLK Weekend memorial civic service project organized by the group 500 Men Making a Difference.
"One of the biggest things he was and one of the things he felt was the most important part in life is to be of service to his community. So if we have 500 men making a difference, we try to make sure we can do the same thing, be of service to our community and help better our city," Cyriac St. Vil said.
The group organizes young men for volunteer projects throughout Brooklyn.
