5 Cars Vandalized Overnight In New Rochelle Parking Lot
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Police in New Rochelle are trying to track down a vandal who smashed car windows and stole cash from cars parked in a lot near Montefiore Sound Shore Medical Center.
As CBS 2's Andrea Grymes reported, several hospital workers left their overnight shifts Friday morning to find their cars vandalized.
"Look at it, everything happened to it," hospital employee Elizabeth Ogilvie told Grymes.
Her front window was completely shattered and the vandal apparently helped himself to some cash.
"I took out $400 last night from the bank. I put it up there, left it there. It's gone. My credit card, it's gone. The windows are gone, the dashboard is out. Everything is messed up," said Ogilvie.
Other hospital workers were also apparently hit by the vandal.
"I came over and mine was totally wrecked," Daphne Lawrence said.
In all, five cars in the New Rochelle lot were broken into sometime overnight, Grymes reported.
"Disgusting. Terrible. After a long night's work and expect to come out and find this," Lawrence said.
"I'm surprised that happened over here because they got so many people that walk around and this place is always busy on this side," Peter Bruno, another hospital employee, told Grymes.
Broken glass littered the lot where the windows were smashed out.
One of the victims put plastic over a now exposed passenger side window.
"I can't believe this. I cannot believe this," Ogilvie said.
She said she was going to use the money stolen from her car for Christmas gifts.
"That's my paycheck. I worked two weeks for that," said Ogilvie.
One of the victims said in her 17-year career at the hospital, nothing like this has ever happened.
