Taking a look at who's hot and who's not on the NY/NJ sports landscape:
THREE UP:
1. Rangers
They have seven wins in their last 10 games, and they've picked up points in nine of those contests. They also picked up elite puck mover Keith Yandle, who will make them even better.
2. Kirk Nieuwenhuis
He went 4-for-4 in his first game, as the Mets defeated the Braves, 8-2. I think he has a real good chance to make the big club as a bench player.
3. A-Rod
Hey, he got a hit in his first at-bat of the spring. Good for him.
THREE DOWN:
1. New York Hoops
After a brief hiatus, the Knicks turned back into a pumpkin. The Nets have a shot at a playoff spot, but they appear to be faltering as well.
2. Daniel Murphy
He got into some trouble for his religious comments this week. He might want to stick to baseball.
3. Islanders
They've lost four of six, trade-deadline acquisition Tyler Kennedy is injured and now Matt Martin will miss one game for a suspension after he kneed Dallas defenseman Trevor Daley. Things have been better in Nassau.
