3 People In Custody After Man Shot On NJ TRANSIT Train Platform In Elizabeth
ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- One man was hurt and three people are in custody after a shooting Friday morning on a NJ TRANSIT train platform in Elizabeth.
Authorities said the shooting happened during a robbery attempt just before 5 a.m. A man was shot in the leg and taken to University Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Three suspects, two men and a woman, were taken into custody, authorities said. NJ TRANSIT said police arrived within minutes.
"They did respond quickly to the scene," NJ TRANSIT spokesperson Courtney Carroll told WCBS 880's Levon Putney. "The suspects were apprehended quite quickly."
As CBS 2's Janelle Burrell reported, investigators spent the rest of the morning looking underneath dumpsters, searching walkways and using canines to hunt for evidence.
Residents who live near the tracks and frequent the station say the area is known to be dangerous when it's dark, CBS 2 reported.

"I don't walk out at night," Elizabeth resident Kanden Lapoma told CBS 2.
"People come from out of nowhere looking to hurt somebody else," said Hillside resident Monique Livingston.
As police continue to investigate, unsettled residents and commuters say they're remaining cautious.
"You have to watch where you're walking because [of] the simple fact that there are a lot of people out here who do intend to do bad," a man named Juan, who did not want to give his last name, told CBS 2.
The platform stayed open and NJ TRANSIT said the incident did not affect rail service.
Police have not yet released the names of the suspects nor what charges they are facing, CBS 2 reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
