3-Alarm Fire Damages 2 Homes In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A large fire tore through a home and spread to a neighboring house in Queens Christmas Eve.
The fire broke out at around 11:40 a.m. at 142nd Place near 123rd Avenue in Jamaica.
"They had a heavy fire in an exterior shed area, located in a driveway between two private homes," FDNY Assistant Chief James Daly said.
125 firefighters responded to the scene. Nine people were rescued, including one who was pulled straight from the shower, CBS2's Steve Langford reported.
Video of the fire posted online shows the shed completely ablaze, and the fire beginning to catch on the roof of the building. That building had just finished being renovated after another fire a few years earlier, Langford reported.
Adriane Robinson says she and her family will survive.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," Robinson said. "[I] had some gifts under the tree, but, you know, I'm all right."
Neighbors were more openly distraught about what their friends are enduring, Langford reported.
The displaced residents of the two homes will be put up in a hotel or taken care of by the Red Cross.
