$22,000 Reward Offered In Forest Park Sexual Assault
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The reward has been increased as police continue to hunt the suspect wanted for sexually assaulting a woman in Forest Park last week.
According to police, the attacker struck his 69-year-old victim with a stun gun - but didn't fire - around 4:30 p.m. on August 26 near Myrtle Avenue and Forest Park Road in Forest Park. He knocked her to the ground and then sexually assaulted her, police said.
Police are offering a $22,000 reward for information in this case.
The city of New York is offering $10,000, the NYPD is offering an additional $10,000 for the suspect's arrest and conviction and Crime Stoppers will give a reward of $2,000 for the arrest and indictment of the suspect.
The victim told police she was approached by a white man standing 5'9" to 5'11" and wearing a black shirt and black sweat pants. He is described as being a white man, 30 to 40 years old with light brown hair. He was clean-shaven at the time of the attack, police said.
The woman, who is an immigrant and does not speak English well, waited a couple of days before reporting the attack, sources told CBS 2's Lou Young last week.
This latest incident was the second time this year that a woman has been sexually assaulted by a man armed with a stun gun in the park, police said.
In March, a 23-year-old woman reported a similar attack in the same park. She told police a man came from behind her and shot her in the neck with a stun gun before sexually assaulting her.
Police have not linked the two attacks.
