2 Suffer Minor Injuries In Explosion At Stony Brook University Lab
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Several people were injured Thursday after an explosion at Stony Brook University on Long Island.
According to the university, the explosion occurred around 4:30 p.m. at the second-floor lab inside the Earth and Space Science Building during a "routine scientific experiment'."
Two people suffered minor injuries and were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in good condition.
University officials said the two who were injured are not students at the school.
There was minor structure damage to the building, the university said.
Spokeswoman Lauren Sheprow said the damage was contained to the lab and presented no danger to the campus at large.
It's finals week at the state university. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 20,000.
