2 People Killed In 2 Fires On Long Island
WAINSCOTT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Two people have died after two separate fires on Long Island.
The first fire happened in Wainscott on Friday. Suffolk County police say the fire broke out at a vacation cabin just after 6 p.m. at the Cozy Cabin Complex on Montauk Highway.
Firefighters were able to put out the blaze, but authorities say a person was found dead inside.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the person's identity and the cause of death. Officials are still investigating the fire.
Earlier Friday in Commack, police say a fire killed 78-year-old Louis Donolli and injured his son, 48-year-old Timothy Donolli.
Police say around 1:30 p.m., the two were on the second floor of their home on Deepdale Drive when they smelled smoke coming from the lower floor of the house.
Cops say Timothy Donolli went downstairs to try put out the blaze, but couldn't. He then tried to go back upstairs to rescue his father, but by then the fire had spread and he couldn't get to the second floor.
Police say a man working nearby saw the blaze and helped Timothy Donolli get out of the house.
Louis Donolli was pronounced dead at the scene. His son was taken to the hospital.
Officials are still investigating.
