2 NYC Businesses Accused Of Bilking Immigrants
NEW YORK (AP) -- New York's attorney general says two New York City businesses defrauded dozens of victims of the Haiti earthquake with fake legal services.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman told the Daily News that the Brooklyn companies have been ordered to shut down. They are Rincher's Bookstore and Profimax Inc.
Schneiderman says the companies charged the immigrants hundreds of dollars for legal services even though they didn't have lawyers on staff.
They have 45 days to close down and face fines of more than $25,000.
Profimax did not return a call for comment. A receptionist at Rincher's said it was still in business but declined further comment.
