2 Men's Bodies Pulled From East River Within 8 Hours
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police pulled two men's bodies out of the East River within a period of eight hours overnight Thursday into Friday.
One of the men has been identified, while police are seeking to identify the other.
At 11:52 p.m. Thursday, police were sent to the East River at 14th Street for the first call of a man in the water. The NYPD Harbor Unit pulled the body of Paul Bauer, 50, from the river, police said.
Bauer, who was homeless, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Around 6:35 a.m., the NYPD Harbor Unit was again called to the East River, this time at 23rd Street. They pulled another man in the water and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The second man remained unidentified late Friday. He was described by police as dark-skinned and wearing a polo shirt with dark and light stripes, Levis blue jeans, a black warm-up jacket, and black Nike sneakers.
The man also had a close-cut beard with no mustache, police said.
Anyone who knows about the identity of the second man was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
The New York City Medical Examiner's office will determine the cause of both men's deaths.
