2-Foot Alligator Found In Westchester County Pond
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A nearly two-foot-long alligator living in the pond of a suburban New York City park has been captured and sent to a reptile rehabilitation preserve in Massachusetts.
The Journal News reported on Saturday the unnamed reptile was captured by police and officers form the state's Environmental Conservation Police Friday.
Police say the 22-inch amphibian was seen roaming around Wilson's Woods Park last week. They say police searched for an hour Friday for the alligator after someone snapped a photo of the creature.
Police say there have been no reports of dangerous run-ins with the alligator.
It is unknown for how long the alligator called Wilson's Woods Park home. Police say the creature may have been dumped there by a previous owner after becoming too big to be a pet.
Last fall, several alligators were found on Long Island. They were believed to be pets that got too big, so the owners left them in public places.
