2 Charged In Shooting That Left 2 Men Dead In Irvington, New Jersey

IRVINGTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Two suspects have been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of two men in Irvington, New Jersey back in November, authorities announced Monday.

Around 5:45 a.m. Nov. 22, Irvington police were called out for multiple shots in the 600 block of Chancellor Avenue, according to the Essex county Prosecutor's office.

Police found two men – Shaqkille Kirkland and Dashawn James, both 20 – at the scene with gunshots, prosecutors said. Kirkland was pronounced dead at the scene, while James was pronounced dead a short time afterward at University Hospital, police said.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force investigated, and Altariq Thomas, 28, and Aljumar Derrick, 24, were both charged on warrants, police said.

Thomas and Derrick were arrested Friday morning in Irvington, and were charged with two counts of murder and multiple weapons offenses, police said.

Derrick and Thomas were being held Monday night in the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, after their bonds were both set at $1 million.
