2 Arrested After Teens Pick Fight With Paramus, N.J. Police Officers
PARAMUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A weekend confrontation between police officers and several teenage boys in Paramus, N.J., ended with two officers and one of the teens suffering minor injuries.
Two Paramus police officers had pulled a vehicle over in an unrelated incident early Saturday, when the group of about 10 teenage boys happened to walk by.
The teens allegedly began screaming and cursing at the officers, who told them to move on. But the boys refused to go anywhere, and a scuffle soon ensued when an officer tried to arrest one of the teens.
The boys ran off when the officers called for backup, but two 16-year-old Teaneck boys were soon captured and charged with rioting, obstruction of administration, and resisting arrest. One of the boys was also charged with possessing a knife, the other with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, the newspaper reported.
One of the officers suffered a sprained wrist, and another sprained his hand, the newspaper reported. One of the teens who was arrested suffered an injury to his eye, the newspaper reported.
The newspaper reported the same group of boys had prompted Garden State Plaza mall security to call police about two hours earlier, but no arrests were made.
