Police: Queens Girl, 14, Recants Sexual Assault Story
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 14-year-old girl who claimed to have been sexually assaulted on the way to school has since recanted, police said Tuesday.
According to the city Department of Education, the eighth-grader was walking to Walter H. Crowley Intermediate School in Elmhurst when she initially claimed she was attacked.
The girl originally said the assault happened just after 9 a.m. about a mile away from the school on 82nd Street and Roosevelt Avenue, police told CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez.
The girl said she was approached by a man who followed her and then grabbed her chest, according to police. The girl said she then kicked her attacker and ran to school, authorities said.
The teen told school administrators that the man touched her inappropriately. The school quickly notified the student's parents, guidance counselor and police.
A few hours later, though, she said the sexual assault never happened, police said.
