14 Evacuated After Ceiling Collapse In Harlem Building
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A partial building collapse Tuesday afternoon forced more than a dozen people out onto the street in Harlem.
A bathroom on the fourth floor of the six-story building at 1890 Seventh Ave., collapsed at 4:33 p.m., the FDNY told 1010 WINS. The floor fell from the fourth floor all the way down to the second.
Fourteen people were evacuated, the FDNY said. It was not clear whether the entire building was eventually evacuated.
The New York City Department of Buildings said Tuesday night that the apartment where the ceiling collapsed had been undergoing renovation. A stop work order has been issued.
Two violations were also issued, for failure to safeguard and for failure to provide a tenant protection plan while working in an occupied building, the department said.
