13 Pit Bulls Found Dead Following L.I. Fire; Man Faces Dog Fighting Charges
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A fire in Freeport, Long Island on Friday resulted in the arrest of a man on dog fighting charges.
Anthony Reddick is facing 18 counts of felony and misdemeanor animal fighting charges after 13 dead pit bulls were found in a one-car garage that went up in flames.
According to Nassau County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Shams Tarek, the 53-year-old was a tenant at the home on Hillside Avenue.
Nassau County police said the fire exposed the dead dogs and dog-fighting apparatus.
Three other pit bulls were found alive and investigators discovered more dog-fighting equipment following a search warrant that was executed, police said.
Reddick fled the scene when the fire broke out, but was arrested Saturday afternoon, Tarek said.
Reddick is expected to be arraigned on the charges on Sunday.
