Caught On Video: 12-Year-Old Beaten By Group Of Teens At Brooklyn Deli
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A 12-year-old was attacked in a Brooklyn corner store, and now police are looking for the group of teens responsible.
The assault was caught on camera.
CBS2's Alice Gainer spoke with the boy's mother who believes her son was targeted by the teens but doesn't know them.
He's been bullied in the past, she says, and they think this is connected.
Security video from inside the store at 643 Marcy Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant shows a group of teens attacking the 12-year-old, who is blurred out in the bottom right of screen. It happened Monday night around 5:30 p.m.
"Pain to his head and shoulder from being hit with the crate, and he was kicked and hit with soda cans and punched in his face repeatedly," said the boy's mother, Valerie Prince.
She says the six teens in the video seem to be about 16 or 17 - older than her 12-year-old.
"He said they came in right away and started beating on him, calling him all types of names," Prince said.
She says her son has been bullied several times before and thinks these teens know his previous alleged attackers. Gainers showed pictures of the teens to store regulars, who said they've never seen him.
"I just come and go but I don't see too much happening like that," one person said.
"I ain't ever seen them around here," said another.
"I'm sad to know that that happened, you know, and I hope that they get whoever did that," said Ellen Jones.
Prince says she, too, wants justice for her son.
"He's much of a loner who doesn't have many friends. He's a good kid, plays video games. Loving child, plays with his cat," Prince said. "He's afraid to come out. He doesn't want to come downstairs."
Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). You can also submit a tip via their website or on Twitter, @NYPDTips. All calls are kept confidential.
