10 In North Jersey Accused Of Stealing Luxury Cars
ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say they cracked a theft ring that targeted luxury cars following a 15-month investigation in northern New Jersey.
Union County's prosecutor on Wednesday announced the arrests of ten people, many of them reputed gang members.
The investigation began in 2009 after seven Mercedes Benz vehicles valued at $775,000 were stolen from a storage facility. Five of the vehicles were later recovered.
In May 2010, authorities say $310,500 worth of Mercedes Benz vehicles and six Cadillac Escalades were stolen.
Authorities say they recovered three vehicles worth more than $330,000, several guns and more than $71,000 in cash.
Maurice Loyal of Union Township is charged with racketeering, receiving stolen property and other charges.
The others -- Jasmin Golson, Jorge Rosario, Maurice Murray, Alvin Harper, Jimi Harrison, Edwin Martinez, Carlos Perez, Carlos Arnau, Mohamed Selim and Hector Martinez -- are charged with receiving stolen property.
