1 Man Killed, 1 Wounded In Laurelton, Queens Shooting

At 2:36 a.m. Monday, police were sent to 219th Street and 137th Avenue in Queens, where they found two men with gunshot wounds outside a building.

Dowayne K. Henry, 20, was found with a gunshot wound to the head and abdomen, and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A 25-year-old man was taken to Jamaica Hospital Center with a gunshot wound to the back. He was reported in stable condition.

As CBS 2's Don Champion reported, friends and family broke down on Monday as the reality the Henry was gone became clear.

Hours after Henry was gunned down family members struggled to figure out who could want him dead.

"How you just come up and shoot him like that doesn't make any sense," Henry's uncle Andrew Douglass said.

Investigators spent much of the morning at the home trying to piece together clues. There did not appear to be an altercation before the gunfire and the shooter ran off.

Family members described Henry as a dedicated kid who recently returned home from college. The young ma worked two jobs and loved playing basketball.

In an online recruiting profile Henry talked about his passion for the game and his love for mentoring younger players.

"In my eyes my community will expand due to my drive and willingness to provide a better place of living for the young ones that surround me," he wrote.

A motive for the killing remains unclear, but family members hope that the gunman will do the right thing and turn himself in.
