EASTPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A 45-year-old man was killed, and a second person was wounded, in an early-morning home invasion on Long Island Sunday.
Suffolk County police said around 3:25 a.m., two masked men broke into a home at 142 E. Moriches Blvd. in Eastport, announced a robbery, and shot two residents before fleeing the scene.
Francisco Pirir, 45, was killed in the attack.
Another man who lived in the house was shot in the hand, and was treated and released from an area hospital.
Police said they were not sure Sunday afternoon of any reason why robbers might have chosen the home they did.
The investigation was ongoing late Sunday afternoon. Anyone with information was asked to call the Suffolk County Homicide Squad at (631) 852-6492, or the Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS.
