1 Dead, 1 Wounded In Irvington, NJ Shooting
IRVINGTON, N.J. (AP) -- One man was killed and another wounded when gunfire erupted behind a supermarket in northern New Jersey.
Katherine Carter, a spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, said it's not clear what sparked Friday's incident in Irvington. She said police went to the scene around 5 p.m. after a gunshot detection system alerted them to the gunfire.
Officers could not immediately locate the victims, but soon found them on a street in nearby Newark. Both were taken to University Hospital in Newark, where 19-year-old Shadir Juiston of Irvington was pronounced dead.
The wounded man, identified only as a 20-year-old Roselle resident, was struck in the arm but is expected to survive.
Further details on the shooting were not disclosed, and no arrests had been made as of Saturday afternoon.
