1 Dead, 1 Injured In Queens Village Fire

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- One person was killed, and another injured, when a fire broke out in an apartment building in Queens Sunday afternoon.

The fire broke out shortly after 2 p.m. at the home at 94-67 Springfield Blvd. in Queens Village, according to the FDNY. The blaze ripped through the first floor of a two-story multi-unit building.

The fire was under control by a few minutes before 3 p.m., the FDNY told 1010 WINS.

An unidentified person died in the fire, while a second person was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, officials said.

Police said the fire does not appear to be suspicious. The cause of the blaze was not known late Sunday afternoon.

At the scene, fire officials told reporters there were no working smoke detectors in the house.
