Love was a star lacrosse player both at her high school, Notre Dame Prep in Baltimore, and at UVA. Her high school team honored her by wearing her retired number Tuesday, reports CBS station WJZ.
"I think today is much more difficult than it was that day because I think we were all in shock, and I think that we have had to live a year of everything without Yeardley," said Mary Bartel, Notre Dame Prep lacrosse coach to the station.
In addition to the game, Notre Dame asked its students and faculty to "bring out the Yeardley." In other words, do a random act of kindness, which was something that Love was known for, reports the station.
"That's what we've encouraged people to do--a kindness for someone, make their day," said Cami Colarossi, Notre Dame Prep Communications to WJZ.
George Huguely, also a UVA lacrosse player and Love's ex-boyfriend, sits in jail, charged with her murder and awaiting trial. Huguely is accused of entering Love's apartment and slamming her head into a wall. Love died of trauma to the head, according to authorities. Huguely has been held in jail since his arrest.
A judge has set the trial date for Feb. 6. A motions hearing was also set for Nov. 7.
