William, Kate to step out at charity gala for first public engagement

(CBS/AP) - Prince William and his new wife will attend a gala dinner for a children's charity next week as their first public engagement together as a married couple.

William and the former Kate Middleton, now known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, will be the guests of honor at the 10th Absolute Return for Kids (ARK) charity gala on June 9 in London.

William will also deliver a speech to guests - his first in public address since his wedding on April 29.

About 900 guests are expected to be at the fundraising event, which costs $16,500) a head.

Later in the month, the royal couple will travel across the Atlantic for their 11-day tour of Canada and the U.S.

Their  first  public  functions as a couple was togreet President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obamaduring their stat e visit to Buckingham Palace last week.
