Who Will Play Daisy in New "The Great Gatsby" Film?
NEW YORK (CBS) Baz Luhrmann is eyeing an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" for his next film.
The "Moulin Rouge" director has already done a workshop of the screenplay he co-wrote with Craig Pierce, with Leonardo DiCaprio reading the part of Jay Gatsby, Toby Maguire as Nick Carraway and Rebecca Hall ("The Town") as Daisy Buchanan.
But while Luhrmann reportedly wants that trio to star, he is also expanding the search for an actress to play Daisy as he moves closer to committing to the project as his next movie.
Deadline.com reports that Luhrmann has a list of actresses in mind and wants to see how they read with DiCaprio. Hall is in the running along with other stars like Keira Knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Blake Lively, Abbie Cornish, Michelle Williams and Scarlett Johansson. According to the report, the director is also "sweet" on Natalie Portman.
Jezebel suggested some other stars they'd like to see play the part of the beautiful but shallow Daisy - Rachel McAdams, Carey Mulligan, Zooey Deschanel, Kirsten Dunst, Leighton Meester and January Jones.
"Gatsby" has already been adapted for the screen - Mia Farrow played Daisy in the 1974 film, with Robert Redford as Jay Gatsby and Sam Waterson as Nick Carraway.
