Whitney Houston Faces Charges
Pop singer Whitney Houston could face 30 days in a Hawaiian jail and a $1,000 fine for allegedly possessing half an ounce of marijuana, discovered by security staff at the Keahole-Kona International Airport, police said.
The drug was found Jan. 11 in Houston's bag during a routine search as the recording star prepared to board a plane for San Francisco, First Deputy Prosecutor Charlene Iboshi said. The petty misdemeanor charge was filed Tuesday.
Staff kept the bag, but Houston departed before officers had arrived, police said.
Houston's husband Bobby Brown was arrested earlier this year at the airport in Newark, New Jersey, after testing positive for cocaine while on probation for a 1996 drunk driving conviction. Houston picked Brown up from a Florida jail July 7, when he was released 10 days early for good behavior.
