President Obama celebrated his hometown hockey team at the White House Thursday, welcoming the Chicago Blackhawks to the East Room and praising them for their 2015 Stanley Cup win.

"For the third time as president," Mr. Obama said, "I get to say give it up for the Stanley Cup champs -- my hometown Chicago Blackhawks."

"It is always fun to have the Stanley Cup here," he continued. "It truly is the best trophy in sports."

The president joked about the upcoming Canadian State Dinner, suggesting that he'd leave the trophy on display when entertaining his guests.

"We may just leave it right in the middle of the room... to gloat a little bit," he said.

Making light of the recent speculation surrounding his Supreme Court pick, the president also brought up the issue in his address to the Blackhawks.

"Each year the Hawks keep on winning," Mr. Obama said. "It is, as I said a tribute to the front office."

And, he added, "It is also, by the way, a tribute to the head of scouting who just told me that he could help me pick my Supreme Court Justice."

"He volunteered," the president ribbed. "He said 'I know what I'm doing.'"

At the conclusion of the president's' remarks, Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz -- with Mr. Obama's post-White House life in mind -- presented the president with an executive parking pass for the United Center in Chicago. The pass, good for Blackhawks games, will also allow the president to stake a parking claim for any United Center event.

The president put it directly into his jacket pocket and excitedly exclaimed, "This is the best gift I've ever gotten at the White House."

"This is really cool," he said. "You'd pay for this wouldn't you? Absolutely...might sell this on EBay." John McDonough then presented POTUS with a miniature Stanley Cup.

The president ended his brief remarks with a nod to his other Chicago teams.

"I haven't given up hope on the Bulls, or the White Sox, or the Bears, or heck, I'd even take the Cubs," he said. "But in the meantime, let's give it up again for the Chicago Blackhawks!"
