What happens to your car when it's "in the shop"?

CHICAGO -- It's enough to make a wary car owner even warier...

A suburban Chicago couple found out what their car was "doing" after they left it at the shop -- turns out it was doing 96 mph in a 50 mile-per-hour zone, according to CBS Chicago.

The station reports that when Drew Hovorka needed a 100,000-mile checkup for his Dodge Caliber, he went to Gurnee Chrysler last week and dropped nearly $2,000 for maintenance. Taht was the good news.

The vehicle had a Garmin dash-camera, and just for the heck of it, the station says, Hovorka reviewed the after getting his car back.

"I'm flabbergasted," Hovorka says. "I can't believe he would drive a customer's car like that."

"He broke so many laws just watching that 8-minute video, it was unbelievable," Hovorka told the station.

His wife, Christine Hovorka says: "Luckily, we have a camera in the car to see what happens."

The dealership did not return calls or comment for this story.

The driving took place in land covered by the Lake County Sheriff's Department. An investigation is underway.
