Webber Leads Wizards To Win
Chris Webber scored 24 points and Rod Strickland had 17 points, a game-high 11 rebounds and 10 assists Tuesday night as the Washington Wizards beat the Milwaukee Bucks 93-77.
Washington, which stopped a three-game road losing streak, got 12 points from Webber in the first quarter, took a 36-17 lead early in the second and coasted, sending the cold-shooting Bucks to their fifth loss in six games.
Milwaukee played without leading scorer Glenn Robinson (knee) and Terrell Brandon (ankle) for the second straight game. Robinson was placed on the injured list prior to the game and Brandon has been sidelined for a month.
Strickland didn't even play in the fourth quarter. The Wizards led by 19 or more through the final period.
Ray Allen led the Bucks with 15 points, while Ricky Pierce and Elliot Perry had 12 each.
Washington, which won for the sixth time in eight games, held the Bucks to 13-of-39 shooting in the first half and took a 55-36 lead.
The Wizards, battling for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, stretched their lead to 70-44 with 6:19 left in the third quarter on two free throws by Strickland.
Webber's alley-oop dunk and a 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter gave the Wizards a 28-15 lead.
Notes: Robinson, averaging 23.5 points per game, is expected to return within three weeks. ... Washington won the season series 2-1. ... Milwaukee (29-31) fell two games under .500 for the first time since Jan. 24.
