Watch Eddie Redmayne's transformation in "The Danish Girl" trailer
The first trailer for "The Danish Girl" is out, giving a glimpse at Eddie Redmayne as Einar Wegener, one of the first recipients of gender reassignment surgery in the 1930s.
Directed by Tom Hooper ("The King's Speech," "Les Misérables"), the film follows Wegener transforming into Lili Elbe.
The teaser begins with Redmayne's character married to Gerda, played by Alicia Vikander. They seem happily married until a scene in which Gerda has her husband pose with a dress for a portrait she's working on.
Ben Whishaw, Sebastian Koch, Amber Heard and Matthias Schoenaerts co-star in the film. The transgender love story will debut at the Venice Film Festival this month before opening in select theaters starting on Nov. 27.
Redmayne, 33, took home an Oscar for Best Actor earlier this year for his role in "The Theory of Everything."
Could another Oscar nomination be in his future?
