Video shows drag racing in LA neighborhood where two were killed
CHATSWORTH, Calif.-- Residents in Chatsworth, a northwestern San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, say their street has become a dangerous hotspot for drag racing, CBS Los Angeles reports.
Alex Torres shot cellphone video after midnight Thursday morning, capturing drivers going full throttle less than a mile from where two people were killed a year ago this month.
Those victims had been watching a race when Henry Gevorgyan, 21, who was racing another vehicle on Plummer Street from Canoga Avenue, lost control of his car and plowed into them, according to the station. The two men were charged with murder.
Racing, residents say, now occurs on Canoga Avenue almost daily between midnight and 3 a.m.
"All you hear is cars roaring, tires screeching," Torres said. Another resident, Deborah Johnston, described it as "just continuous noise."
The Los Angeles Police Department, responding to calls for stepping up area patrols, says it is aware of the issue and working on a solution.
