Video prompts suspension of two college police officers
DALLAS, Texas - Two police officers who work on the Dallas campus of El Centro College have been placed on leave after amateur video captured their interaction with four young men, reports CBS DFW.
The person who shot the video tells the station he didn't like what he was seeing and that the officers overreacted.
"You can say whatever you want. I saw it with my own eyes," said Charles Adams. "That's why I needed it to be on video. You can't lie about a video."
College officials say the images have raised concerns for them, too, reports the station.
Last Wednesday, the four young men were ordered to face the brick wall of the college, while one of the two campus cops searched, questioned, and in one case hit the teens, CBS DFW reported. The school reportedly won't say why the teens were stopped and frisked. Adams called it police overreach.
"She kept calling it my school, my campus. I think for this officer it was about control...," Adams told the station.
El Centro College President Jose Adames viewed the video and says the college is committed to a full investigation, reports CBS DFW.
"In this case we decided to do a thorough investigation, and place two officers on leave because of the interactions we saw in the video," Adames said.
According to the station, the officers filed a report on the incident, but college officials declined to release it, claiming the young men involved are underage.
El Centro's website says it is a community college with three campuses in Dallas.
