Victoria's Secret ad campaign causes a stir

A petition to ban a new Victoria's Secret advertising campaign is gaining traction.

The lingerie company is being criticized for ads promoting its Perfect Body line of push-up bras that features the likes of models Lily Aldridge, Behati Prinsloo, and Jasmine Tookes. Posters show a group of Victoria's Secret Angels with the line The Perfect "Body" -- a play on its latest Body by Victoria range of lingerie that features bras dubbed "Perfect Shape Bra" or "Perfect Coverage Bra."

But critics are taking issue with juxtaposition of the tall and slender models alongside the phrase The Perfect "Body."

A change.org petition asks the lingerie giant to change the wording on the ads to "something that does not promote unhealthy and unrealistic standards of beauty, as well as pledge to not use such harmful marketing in the future."

The petition reads:

"Every day women are bombarded with advertisements aimed at making them feel insecure about their bodies, in the hope that they will spend money on products that will supposedly make them happier and more beautiful.

All this does is perpetuate low self-esteem among women who are made to feel that their bodies are inadequate and unattractive because they do not fit into a narrow standard of beauty. It contributes to a culture that encourages serious health problems such as negative body image and eating disorders.

Victoria's Secret's new advertisements play on women's insecurities, and send out a damaging message by positioning the words 'The Perfect Body' across models who have exactly the same, very slim body type."

The petition asks users to tweet #IAmPerfect to express their concerns over Victoria's Secret's campaign.
