U.S. Capitol on lockdown after gunfire reported
(CBS) - The U.S. Capitol is in lockdown after reports of shots fired outside the building on Thursday afternoon, according to the Associated Press. CBS News is reporting that at least one person was seen on a stretcher
Reporters covering the government shutdown began tweeting that they had heard gunfire just before 2:30 p.m.
WTOP Radio in Washington D.C. reports shots were heard near Second Street and Constitution Avenue NE.
National Review reporter Robert Costa posted "Shots fired at the Capitol" and Petula Dvorak of the Washington Post wrote "Lots of shots fired at the Capitol, I heard a roar of shots for several seconds, then quiet, then a couple more."
CBS News has learned the White House is also on lockdown.
