Missing Univ. of Illinois student found slain

CHICAGO -- A University Illinois student -- missing for a week -- was found murdered Saturday, reports CBS Chicago.

The victim, who police identified Monday as Vicente Mundo, 20, was last heard from on Sunday, Jan. 25. Mundo had left a friend's off-campus apartment and was heading back home to his own, his sister told the station.

Authorities said that his body had been found on a rural road 10 miles south of Champaign, a city outside of Chicago where the university is located. Officials from the Champaign County Sheriff's office told the Chicago Sun Tribune that they were conducting a homicide investigation, but would not comment further.

"His car is also missing. His phone is also missing," his sister Victoria Mundo told the newspaper. "Everything that he had on his person is still missing."

According to CBS Chicago, Mundo had been driving his Silver Acura with black rims and a specialty license plate. Authorities told the Tribune that they were still searching for the vehicle.
