U.K. Jewel Thieves Used Hollywood Makeup
It seemed so brazen; two thieves - with no apparent disguises - walked into London's Graff jewelers and made off with $65 million worth of diamonds.
But CBS News correspondent Sheila MacVicar reports that an unwitting makeup artist, who's now in protective custody, has told police he spent four hours transforming the men.
Think Mission Impossible II - and the moment when Tom Cruise turns into the villainous Dougray Scott.
"Four hours is about the time it would take to make someone look different, realistically," says prosthetics expert Andy Deubert.
For a demonstration, a woman was turned, by all appearances, into a man using nothing more than latex makeup and a fake forehead. It took just two hours.
"My husband isn't going to recognize me," declared the model.
And that, of course, is the point; makeup so deftly done that the security guards standing at the door of Graff saw nothing wrong.
