Two officers shot in hostage situation in Chicago suburb
HARVEY, Ill. - Two suburban Chicago police officers were shot Tuesday afternoon, and the suspected gunman has taken hostages, reports CBS Chicago.
Police remain on the scene in Harvey, Ill.
Police spokesman Sean Howard said the officers were shot while police responding to a 911 call of a burglary in progress, according to the station. "An exchange of gunfire was taken at that point," he said.
One officer was being treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for gunshot wounds to the arm, which was broken. The other officer was also shot in the arm, although it was only a graze wound. Neither officer has been identified.
Sources told CBS Chicago that the suspect was holding two hostages at a house near 147th and Seeley.
Police have cordoned off the area and the Cook County Sheriff's office's Hostage Barricade Team is assisting.
