Two Heavyweight Votes For Harry

A few weeks ago, Harry Potter creator JK Rowling made it known that two major characters will die in the seventh and final book of the series, which she's writing now.

Harry's fans are hoping he won't be one of the two meeting their demise.

Among those fans, two authors who are very heavyweights in their own right, Stephen King and John Irving.

Rowling is back in the United States for the first time in six years, headlining a two-day charity event, reading alongside King and Irving at New York's Radio City Music Hall.

At a news conference with all three authors, King said, "I just want it to be fair. That's all I ever wanted."

Irving commented, "My fingers are crossed for Harry, that's all. I'm just hoping."

He added, "We see ourselves as warm up bands for Jo."

Rowling has become a literary rock star since creating one of the world's most popular characters, selling over 300 million books while taking in billions at the box office.

With the story of a boy wizard and his magical world drawing to a close, Rowling admitted, "I will miss it hugely, but I have always planned seven books, and I planned this particular ending."

She hasn't dismissed scenarios played out in headlines suggesting the death of her lead character.

"I understand why an author would kill a character," Rowling observed, "from the point of view of not allowing other writers to continue writing when the original is dead."

But after living with Harry for so long, some suggest, perhaps Rowling will say goodbye to a few of his friends instead.

"In the genre in which I'm writing," she continued, "you usually find that the hero goes on alone // Harry is not completely alone he still has his two faithful sidekicks."

There's no word yet when the final book will be published.

CBS is a sponsor of their charity readings, which raise money for Doctors Without Borders and the Haven Foundation.
