Trace Adkins' 'Songs About Me'
Grand Ole Opry star Trace Adkins brings his "booming baritone" voice to the Second Cup Café.
Known for hits such as "Every Light In The House Is On," "This Ain't No Thinkin' Thing," "I'm Tryin'," "Hot Mama" and "Rough & Ready," Adkins has a new autobiographical CD entitled, "Songs About Me."
He performed a few selections for The Saturday Early Show.
On his Web site he writes: "Even if we're able to release four singles on this record, every one would perfectly represent me and where I am. Take 'Metropolis' — that song kills me. It's about where I came from and exactly what has happened to me. 'Arlington' allows me to express a deep reverence and respect and to pay homage to veterans without making a political statement.
"And then there's 'Songs About Me.' I didn't even have to hear the second verse before I knew I wanted to cut it. I've been in that situation many times, telling people why country music is important, and this is my chance to stand up for this genre."
Next for Adkins is "Broadway Meets Country," a concert next month in New York City hosted by Lee Ann Womack and Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell.
The event is a fundraiser for both the Actors' Fund of America and the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. He will join other performers like Glen Campbell, Billy Currington, Raul Malo, Richie McDonald, Jamie O'Neal, Julie Roberts and Trisha Yearwood on the country side, and an equal number of names known in Broadway theater. The Nov. 12 concert will be held during the week leading up to this year's CMA Awards, which will be held outside Nashville for the first time.
