Tony Parker trade rumors swirl before NBA draft
His highly public split with Eva Longoria just a few months old, is Tony Parker now on the verge of a divorce from the San Antonio Spurs?
Ever since Parker admitted to French journalists last month that the Spurs are "no longer" playing for a title, rumors of him being traded have been one Texas-sized roller coaster of speculation. And with the NBA draft just hours away, the chatter is getting louder.
Here's a 24-hour play by play, courtesy of CBSSports.com's Ben Golliver:
- On Tuesday, CBSSports.com notes a report that Parker is being shopped to the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings.
- On Wednesday, the Spurs deny Parker is being shopped.
- Later Wednesday, HoopsWorld.com reports that the Spurs nearly consummated a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers involving Parker.
- Hours later, CBSSports.com's Ken Berger reports that the ongoing chatter is simply San Antonio attempting to gauge Parker's value on the open market.
This rumor-fest is starting to rival the absurdity of "Carmelodrama" before he was finally traded to the Knicks.
Except it's nothing like the Carmelo saga, according to NBA insiders. As Golliver notes, Spurs officials continue to do what they're paid to do -- find out what their players are worth on the trade market.
"You know and I know they're not trading Tony Parker," one GM said. "You can't get anything close to equal value for him."
